Virtual Space

A floor where members gather as avatars and talk on the spot. Creating offices, entering, talking to people, opening to other organizations.

Last updated: 2026-11-02

Virtual Space is a place where your organization’s members gather on the same floor as avatars. The floor is called an “office.” You can see who’s there, talk to them, and send them DMs. The office opens in a separate browser tab.

  • On a computer: Press “More” in the sidebar to open “Other features,” then press “Virtual Space” under “Work with your team.” If you pin it, you can open it directly from the sidebar
  • On a phone: Press ”…” (“More”) on the bar at the bottom of the screen to open “Other features,” then choose “Virtual Space” under “Work with your team.” Virtual Space isn’t listed under “More” in the menu (≡) at the top left

In a newly created organization, this feature may have a lock on it. It unlocks when you finish the challenge “Step into Virtual Space” or press “Skip and use it (no points)” (→ Challenges and feature locks).

To create or use offices, your organization needs the Focus plan or higher (Focus or Unlimited). Without it, “Virtual spaces are available on the Focus plan and above” appears in place of the office list (→ Plans and billing). You can enter offices that other organizations have opened up, whatever your own organization’s plan is (→ “Also open to other organizations” below).

When you open Virtual Space, the offices appear as cards under “Join an office below.” Each card shows its look, its name, its capacity (the number in parentheses), and how many people are in it now. Press a card to enter that office. Guest members can’t create or enter offices.

Press the “Add Office” card in the list. If there are no offices yet, press “Create an office.” You create one in four steps.

  1. Enter the office name (for example, Green Office)
  2. Choose the capacity from 10, 20, 30, 50, or 100 people
  3. Choose the access. “Public” lets in any member of the organization. “Invite only” lets in only the members who have been invited. With invite only, you can turn on “Let uninvited people knock to enter.”
  4. Choose the look from Office, Cafe, Cosmos, Resort, or Countryside. Finally, press “Create an office.”

“Public” here is about access within your organization. It’s separate from opening an office to other organizations (→ “Also open to other organizations” below).

  • Entering: Press an office’s card. If it’s full, “The office is full” appears and you can’t enter
  • Invite-only offices: If you haven’t been invited, the card shows an “Invite only” mark and can’t be pressed. Ask the creator or an organization admin to invite you
  • Offices you enter by knocking: The card shows a “Knock to enter” mark. When you press the card, “This office requires approval” appears, so press “Knock.” The screen changes to “Waiting for approval.” Once you’re approved, you enter automatically
  • Leaving: Press “Leave office” in the toolbar to go back to the list. In a Cosmos office, press “Leave the cosmos”

A knock goes to the organization admins and the creator of the office who are in that office at the moment. The person who receives it presses “Approve” or “Decline.” Being approved lets you in for that visit only. After you leave, knock again.

  • If “No one can approve right now” appears, knock again after someone who can approve has entered the office
  • You can also knock again later if “No one responded” or “You weren’t let in this time” appears. You can’t press it repeatedly in a short time
  • Moving: Press a bare spot on the floor with no furniture, or move with the arrow keys or the WASD keys. “Zoom in” and “Zoom out” change the size of the display
  • Finding someone: Ctrl+K (⌘+K on a Mac) opens “Find a member.” Choose a name and you move next to that person
  • Seeing who’s here: Press “People & spaces” at the top right to open the “Members here” list
  • Status: In the toolbar, choose “Available” (feel free to talk), “Focusing” (please don’t interrupt), or “Away” (away from the desk). Focusing and Away show a mark on your avatar
  • Focus timer: Only while your status is “Focusing,” a “Focus timer” appears in the toolbar. Choose 25 minutes of focus and a 5-minute break, or 50 minutes of focus and a 10-minute break

You’ll find the other person’s row when you open “People & spaces.”

  • Talking: Press “Talk to ◯◯” on the person’s row to open the conversation screen. In “Check your mic and camera,” check your microphone, camera, and speaker, then press “Start talking.” You can talk to anyone in the same office, wherever they are on the floor
  • When someone talks to you: ”◯◯ is calling you” appears. Choose “Join” or “Ignore.” When you join, you also press “Start talking” to connect
  • During a conversation: You can use “Mute microphone,” “Turn on camera,” and “Leave.” Press “Minimize” to make it a small window, and you can move around the floor while you talk
  • AI balance: Conversations use the AI balance, but only beyond the free time included per seat (→ Plans and billing). If both the free time and the balance are used up, you may not be able to start a conversation, and “Your AI balance has run out” appears. Entering the office and the floor features keep working
  • Shoulder tap: Press “Tap ◯◯ on the shoulder” and the other person gets a notification that you tapped them on the shoulder. You can send it to anyone in the same office, however far away they are. When you send another, wait a little first
  • DM: Press “Send a DM” and a small DM window opens in the floor. The exchange is the same as DMs in chat (→ Chat). If there are unread messages, the number appears on “People & spaces”

Only the creator and the organization admins can edit or delete an office. On the screens of these two, “Settings” appears at the top right of the office’s card. In “Office settings,” you can do the following.

  • Change the name, capacity, access, and look, then press “Save.” If you change the access to “Invite only” without letting people knock, members who haven’t been invited are removed from the office even if they’re in it now. The creator and the organization admins stay
  • Invited members: Shown when the access is invite only. Choose members with “Invite.” To take one off, press “Remove.” The invited members, the creator, and the organization admins can enter. In an office that lets people knock, invited members enter without knocking. If you “Remove” an invitation in an invite-only office that doesn’t let people knock, that member is removed from the office if they’re in it now
  • Members blocked from this floor: The list of members you’ve removed from the office. Press “Unblock” and they can come in again
  • “Delete office”: Press “Delete” on the confirmation screen and it can’t be undone. Everyone currently in the office is removed from it

Removing a member from an office is also up to the creator and the admins. Press “Remove ◯◯ from this floor” on the person’s row in “People & spaces,” and they’re removed right away and can’t come back until you unblock them. You can’t remove yourself or an organization admin.

An organization admin can turn on “Also open to other organizations” in “Office settings.” Once it’s open, members of other organizations can also find the office in the list and enter. On the confirmation screen, agree that your name, icon, and status will be visible to people from other organizations, and press “Make it open.” You can make it private again later.

  • Invite-only offices and offices you enter by knocking can’t be opened. An office that is open can’t be made invite only
  • While it’s open, conversations, calls, and DMs can’t be used — members of your own organization included. When you want to talk internally, use an office that isn’t open
  • Other organizations’ open offices are listed under “Open spaces” below the list. The card shows an “Open” mark. When you enter, press “Agree and enter.” Only people who show their profile on Network can enter (→ Addness Network)
  • Character: Use “Change character” in the toolbar to choose Navy, Bob, Ponytail, Orange tabby, Tuxedo cat, Black cat, Silver tabby, White cat, Shiba, Beagle, Toy poodle, or Pug, or your profile photo
  • Name tag: A flame mark and your streak days appear next to your name. They don’t appear in an office that’s open to other organizations
  • When you enter in another tab: If the same person enters the same office in another tab, the connection of the earlier tab ends
  • Microphone and camera: If you can’t use them, check the browser’s permissions. If you start a conversation while the microphone is unavailable, your voice isn’t sent
  • Huddle: While you’re in a huddle, you can’t start a conversation in the office. Leave the huddle and try again
  • When the connection drops: “Reconnecting…” appears. Once it connects, everything goes back to how it was
