Web App and Desktop App
How the web app and the desktop app differ, which computers are supported, voice input, and requests from your phone.
Last updated: 2026-11-02
In the web app, which you open in your computer’s browser ( https://www.addness.com ), you can use every screen: goals, ToDos, chat, and more. The desktop app opens the same Addness screens in an app installed on your computer. The main features exclusive to the app are these three: personal LINE, Messenger, and WhatsApp integration, voice input (Addness Voice), and requests from your phone to the AI on your computer.
On screens and in guides, the desktop app is also called “Addness Desktop” or “Addness Agent”. They are all the same app.

Supported computers
Section titled “Supported computers”| What you want to use | Mac (Apple silicon, M1 or later) | Windows 10 / 11 |
|---|---|---|
| Install the desktop app | Yes | Yes |
| Personal LINE integration | Yes | Yes on 64-bit |
| Personal Messenger integration | Yes, from version 0.2.69 | Yes on 64-bit, from version 0.2.73 |
| Personal WhatsApp integration | Yes, from version 0.2.106 | Not yet |
| Voice input (Addness Voice) | Yes, with macOS 26 or later | Yes, from version 0.2.71 (trial) |
| Requests from your phone to AI on your computer | Yes | Yes |
- Intel-based Mac: You can install the “Mac (Intel)” version from the official site. However, personal LINE and Messenger integration are not available (the app shows 「このPCでは利用できません(対応: Apple Silicon Mac / Windows x64)」, meaning “Not available on this PC (supported: Apple Silicon Mac / Windows x64)”). Personal WhatsApp integration is not available either (for now, it works only on Macs with Apple silicon). Whether voice input works has not been confirmed
- WhatsApp: This is not an official WhatsApp integration; Addness connects to WhatsApp as an unofficial client. WhatsApp may restrict or suspend your account. A confirmation screen appears before you connect
- Windows: A Windows warning (SmartScreen) may appear when you install it. On company computers, you may not be able to install or run it. In that case, talk to your IT team
Install the desktop app
Section titled “Install the desktop app”- On your computer, open the desktop app page and download the Mac or Windows version
- Mac: Open the downloaded file and drag the Addness icon into the “Applications” folder. Windows: Run the downloaded file and follow the on-screen steps
- Open the app and log in with your Addness account. When a browser opens, log in and press “Return to desktop app”
Log in with the same account you use on the web. Requests from your phone and personal LINE work with the same account and the same organization that you use with your AI and your phone.
New versions are downloaded automatically. When 「更新して再起動」 (Update and restart) appears in the app, press it to switch to the new version. On a Mac, choose “Addness” → “Check for Updates…” in the menu bar to check for a new version right away. After an update, your login, settings, and LINE, Messenger, and WhatsApp integrations stay as they were.
Voice input (Addness Voice)
Section titled “Voice input (Addness Voice)”It listens while you hold down a key, or while you speak hands-free, and turns your speech into text. The text goes not only into Addness but also straight into input fields of other apps.
- It requires a Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later) and macOS 26 or later
- The first time you use it, choose the key that starts listening, and allow microphone and input access when asked
- Open the settings from “Addness” → 「音声入力の設定…」 (Voice input settings) in the Mac menu bar. They are split into 「基本」 (Basic), 「入力」 (Input), 「言葉」 (Words), and 「履歴」 (History)
- This is separate from the microphone button in chat and comments: The microphone button in Addness’s chat and comment input fields uses your browser’s speech recognition. If your browser doesn’t support it, the button doesn’t appear (it works in Chrome or Edge). If you see “Microphone access denied.”, allow the microphone in your browser settings; if you see “Microphone not found.”, check that a microphone is connected
- Windows: Available from version 0.2.71 (October 3, 2026) as a trial. From version 0.2.91 (October 16, 2026), your voice is sent through Addness servers to a speech recognition service (Groq) to be turned into text, so you need to be logged in and connected to the internet. It recognizes English if the app is displayed in English, and Japanese otherwise. Text appears a few seconds after you finish speaking, and you can speak for up to 300 seconds at a time. Open the settings from 「音声入力」 (Voice input) in the app’s settings. If it shows 「Windows版は準備中です」 (“The Windows version is in preparation”), update the app to the latest version
Hide the idle bar
Section titled “Hide the idle bar”While you aren’t using voice input, a thin bar (「待機中のフローティングバー」, the idle floating bar) may appear at the bottom of the screen. To hide it, change the setting as follows.
- Open “Addness” → 「音声入力の設定…」 (Voice input settings) in the Mac menu bar
- Choose 「入力」 (Input)
- For 「待機中のフローティングバー」 (Idle floating bar), choose 「表示しない」 (Don’t show)
From version 0.2.63 (September 27, 2026), the bar is hidden by default.
Send requests from your phone to the AI on your computer
Section titled “Send requests from your phone to the AI on your computer”Addness it in the Addness app on your phone sends requests to Claude Code or Codex on your computer. The desktop app open on your computer receives them.
- The desktop app is installed on your computer and open
- It is logged in with the same Addness account and the same organization as your phone
- Your computer is awake (if it is asleep, the request starts when it wakes up)
- In the desktop app’s settings, a working folder is chosen in “リモート操作” (Remote control), and “スマホから受け付ける” (Accept from phone) is on for the AI you use (Claude Code or Codex). Requests don’t arrive until a working folder is chosen
To set this up, Addness the goal “Ask your AI from your phone” on your computer, and the AI will set it up. If requests don’t arrive, see “You can’t ask from your phone” in MCP integration.
The “Personal LINE” and “Personal Messenger” display in the web settings
Section titled “The “Personal LINE” and “Personal Messenger” display in the web settings”In Addness opened in a browser, the “Personal LINE” and “Personal Messenger” rows under “My Settings › Integrations” show “Install Addness Desktop and sign in to connect your personal LINE account” and how to install the app while Addness Desktop isn’t installed and logged in. Once you update Addness Desktop to the latest version and log in, the rows show whether Desktop is running or offline, and whether it’s connected. Pressing “Connect in app” on a row opens Addness Desktop on the computer you’re using now (→ “Settings display on the web” in LINE integration).
This article is based on the screens and the app (version 0.2.63) as of September 29, 2026. The display of “My Settings › Integrations” opened in a browser is based on October 21, 2026.
