Templates Page

Save goal trees as templates to reuse, run as routines, and publish.

Last updated: 2026-11-02

The templates page is where you stock up goal-tree templates in your organization and reuse them any number of times.

A template copies the tree structure and each goal’s title, ideal, memo (including embedded images), comments (including attachments), and resources (those that finished uploading and aren’t in the trash). If you don’t want the source goal’s conversations or files included in an in-organization template, check before saving.

Assignees, permissions, due dates, and completion status are not carried over.

To open it on desktop, go to “Templates” under “Streamline your work” in “Other features,” which opens when you press “More” in the sidebar. Pin it in “Other features” and it appears in the sidebar. You can also open it from “Choose what to open,” shown by the + on the in-app tabs. On mobile, open the menu (≡) at the top left and go to “Templates” under “More.” In a newly created organization, this feature may have a lock. You can use it once you finish the challenge “Get to know templates” or press “Skip and use it (no points)” (→ Challenges and feature locks). The page has a two-tab layout of “Templates” and “Routines,” and you can watch the concept tour from the ”?” icon next to the heading. From “Marketplace” at the top right, you can find templates that other organizations have published (→ Publishing and receiving).

There are two ways to create one.

Just choose “Save as template” from the goal tree row’s ”…” menu (on Home, it’s under ”…” → “More actions”; available on goals you have edit permission for). That goal tree becomes a template, sub-tree and all.

Create one with a name from “New template” at the top right of the “Templates” tab, and an editor opens. To have AI make one, use “Addness creating a template” at the top of the same dialog: AI asks about work you repeat and turns it into a step-by-step template. The editor works the same way as the goal detail page: you can add and reorder goals, fill in “Ideal” and the memo, and register resources.

Saved templates appear in the Templates tab. Each template has an owner and visibility. With “Everyone in the organization can use”, every organization member can use it. With “Only shared members can use”, only the owner, shared members (viewers and editors), and organization admins can use it. Cards show the owner and usage count; restricted templates also show the number of shared members.

Find templates with the search, filters, and sorting at the top of the tab.

  • Search by name: Narrow by template name
  • Owner: Narrow to “All,” “Me,” or only templates owned by a specific member
  • Sort: Three options — Most used / Newest created first / By name
  • Tags: With tags applied, you can filter by chips. The tags used here are the same ones managed in the members list (→ Members list page). If the organization has no tags yet, the tag setting shows empty
  • Include archived: Archived templates don’t appear in the list. Add this condition when you want to see them
  • Folders: You can organize templates into folders. Put a template in one with “Put in or move to folder” in the template’s ”…” menu. Deleting a folder doesn’t delete the templates inside it

To apply a tag, choose “Set tags” from the template’s ”…” menu.

Operate from the template’s ”…” menu.

  • Archive: Hide it from the list. Bring it back any time with “Restore.” An archived template becomes read-only
  • Delete: Can’t be undone. The routines tied to that template are deleted together (the count appears in the confirmation dialog)

Press “Add to tree” on the template card or on the screen where you’ve opened the template.

  1. In the “Choose the goal to copy into” dialog, choose the destination parent goal
  2. Press “Add” and the whole template content is copied under the chosen parent goal
  3. On success, you can move there right away from “Open the copied goal”

Just "Add to tree" → pick the parent goal to add under. Added goals become ordinary goals you can execute right away

The added goals can be executed right away as ordinary goals. Note that you can only choose destination goals you have edit permission for, and you can’t add under a completed goal. Since it always goes under an existing goal, you can’t add it to the top level without choosing a parent goal.

You can also add from the goal side. Choose a template with “Add from template” in a goal row’s ”…” menu and press “Add,” and the template’s content is copied under that goal. This menu also appears only on incomplete goals you have edit permission for.

Like any other goal, goals added to the tree can be handed to AI with Addness it on the row (→ Home: Addness it). The ideal, memo, and resources written in the template are copied along with them, so MCP-connected AI reads them and carries the work forward.

Goals with the ideal and details are created = steps the AI can read

2

One line to AI

Complete all the tasks under "Spin up the workspace" that were added from the template.

Just send it to MCP-connected Claude Code, Codex, and the like

It executes while reading each goal's ideal and returns the results to the goal

The more you refine the template, the wider the range this one line can advance

Work that repeats on a fixed rhythm can be added automatically with a routine. A routine is a combination of “template × destination parent goal × rhythm × assignee,” and when the set day comes, the template is added to the tree automatically.

TemplateRoutine
Create a routine

No routines yet

Just pick a template and decide where to add it and the rhythm to get started.

Just decide template × place × rhythm × owner. After that, the full set is added automatically on the scheduled day

  • There are three entry points: “Add regularly” on a template card, “Create routine” on the Routines tab, and “Add” in “Routines” on the goal detail page (the destination becomes that goal)
  • Rhythm is daily, weekly (by weekday), or monthly (by date; month-end is possible too)
  • You can choose an assignee (choosing multiple makes a separate routine for each). Auto-added goals are added under the chosen destination parent goal and assigned to the assignee, and appear on the assignee’s screen. The due date is the day it was added
  • The detail page of an auto-added goal carries a “From the routine of ◯◯” chip; pressing it shows the template name, rhythm, next run date, assignee, and so on

The Routines tab list shows the template name, rhythm, next run date, assignee, and creator. Switch between “Mine,” “All,” and “Paused” with the tabs at the top. When there are many, only a fixed number from the top is shown, and a note to that effect appears in the list.

From the list’s ”…” menu, a routine can be “Edited” (change rhythm or destination), “Paused,” “Resumed,” and “Deleted.” When an auto-add couldn’t happen — because the destination goal was completed or deleted, for instance — a notification with the reason arrives (if the destination was completed, the routine is auto-paused).

You can also check from the template side. A template card with a routine set shows ”◯ routines,” and pressing it opens that template’s routine list.

You can also check from the goal side. “Routines” on the goal detail page lists the routines that use that goal as their destination. Press “Open routine list” to move to the Routines tab.

Templates can be published outside the organization too. Anyone who receives the public URL can import it into their own organization and use it.

  • Publish: Open “Share” from the template’s “…” menu or detail header and turn on “Let people outside the organization use it” at the top. A public URL is issued; use “Copy public URL” to send it. Anyone with the link can see the published content, including comments and resources. External publication is independent of internal visibility, so restricted templates can also be published. With automatic updates on, edits reach the public page within a few minutes. With it off, use “Update published version” or “Update now”. To stop publication, turn off the top switch and confirm “Stop publishing”.
  • List on the Marketplace: Published templates appear in the “Marketplace” list at the top right of the templates page. On the “Share” screen you can choose a “Category” (used for filtering). If you don’t want it in the list, turn on “Hide from the Marketplace” (the public URL still opens). You can choose up to three categories. When you pick a category on the Marketplace, templates that three or more organizations have added in that category are listed with templates in your language first, then in order of how many organizations added them
  • Post to Network: Only the person who first published it (the template creator) can also post a published template to the Addness Network timeline with “Post to the Network timeline” on the “Share” screen. It’s introduced from your profile (while your profile is locked, it’s shown only to followers you’ve approved). You can take the post down any time
  • Receive: With “Add to my Addness” on the public page (“Add to your organization” on the Marketplace), you can take it in as a template of your own organization. Once taken in, you can add it to a goal from “Add to tree.” You don’t even need an Addness account. Sign up or log in on the spot, and the import resumes from where it left off
  • Addness with this template: “Addness with this template” on the public page prepares an instruction to hand to Claude Code or Codex (open it in Claude Code or Codex, or copy the instruction and hand it over). The AI that receives the instruction connects to Addness if it isn’t connected yet, adds the template’s content under your own goal, puts it in your ToDos, and works through it starting from the parent goal. The instruction tells the AI to confirm first before high-impact operations such as deleting or sending things outside

A published template gets a “Published” badge in the list and also shows how many times it’s been added. The public page also shows the number of times added and the published version’s last-updated date.

  • Use (add to tree, add regularly, add to calendar): People with access can use the template. Destination goals must be editable by you.
  • Edit, tags, folders, archive, delete: The owner and editors can operate. Organization admins can edit templates without an owner and managed templates, and can organize tags and folders.
  • Visibility, members, owner transfer, external publishing, updating or stopping publication: The owner and organization admins can operate. The previous owner becomes an editor. Only organization admins can assign an owner when there is none.
  • Posting to Network: Only the person who first published it (the template creator) can do this.
  • Change sharing: Open the card’s “…” → “Share”. In a folder’s “…” → “Change visibility of templates in this folder”, change only active templates directly inside the folder that you can manage. Subfolders are excluded and shared members remain unchanged. Folders have no permissions of their own.
  • Existing routines and added goals: Keep working after visibility is restricted.
  • Notifications: You get notifications for comments on a template, setting/changing/pausing/resuming/deleting a routine, when the template of a routine you use is edited, and when an auto-add fails
