Screen Recording
Record your screen, save it automatically, and share it by link. Also covers linking to goals and transcripts (Focus and Unlimited).
Last updated: 2026-11-03
What it does
Section titled “What it does”You can record your screen and share it with a link (beta). Recordings are saved automatically when you stop, and depending on your plan they come with a transcript. You can also record audio only without capturing the screen (→ Recording audio only).
Starting a recording
Section titled “Starting a recording”There are two entry points. Both open the same settings screen.
- Press the nine-dot icon “Recording, audio, meetings & notes” at the top right of the screen (header) → “Record”
- Press the “Start recording” button in Recordings (open Recordings from “More” → “Other features” → “Recordings” under “Store your data”)
In a newly created organization, recording may have a lock. You can use it once you finish the challenge “Try screen recording” or press “Skip and use it (no points).” Audio recording unlocks with “Try audio recording” (→ Challenges and feature locks).
On the settings screen, choose the following four.
- What to capture: One of “Entire screen,” “Window,” “Current tab,” or “Camera only”
- Camera / microphone: Choose the camera and mic to use. “No camera” and “No microphone” are also options. Using the camera overlays your face in a small circle on the screen
- Transcription: Choose “No transcription” or a transcription method (“High accuracy (latest, handles noise well)” or “mini (fast, low cost)”). Transcription is available on Focus and Unlimited
- Linked goal: If you choose it first, members who can see that goal can also watch the recording. You can record with “No goal” too, and change it later on the detail page
The screen shows the number of screen and audio recordings (e.g. “Recordings this month (screen and audio): 2/3”) and the guideline that it auto-stops after up to ◯ minutes and auto-saves after stopping. Screen recordings and audio recordings are counted together. When you hit the cap, “You have reached this month’s limit for screen and audio recordings” appears, with “Upgrade plan” guidance. Depending on the plan, the count is shown as “Saved recordings (screen and audio).” That’s the cap on how many you can keep at once, so deleting screen or audio recordings you don’t need lets you record again.
Pressing “Start recording” begins recording after a countdown.
Note: Screen recording works in a browser on a computer. You can’t record on a phone, iPad, or inside the Addness app (“Screen recording isn’t supported on this device yet. Please record from a browser on your computer.” appears). You can’t start a screen recording while recording audio.
Operating during recording
Section titled “Operating during recording”While recording, operate from the bar at the top of the screen.
- The remaining time display
- Pause / resume / stop
- Edit: Draw on the screen (pen, rectangle, stamp, color choice, undo, redo, clear all)
- Delete: Discard the recording (not saved, can’t be undone)
When you want to record while moving to another tab or app, pressing “Show in picture-in-picture” turns the operation bar into a small separate window. From there too you can pause, resume, stop recording, and turn the camera on/off.
Stopping auto-saves
Section titled “Stopping auto-saves”Pressing “Stop” auto-saves it and moves you to the recording’s detail page. If saving fails, you can recover via “Re-record” or “Re-upload.”
The detail page is laid out with the video, title, Linked goal, and visibility on the left, and the transcript on the right. People who can edit can press the title to rename it. While the video is being prepared, “Preparing the video” is shown, and it becomes playable automatically once done.
When a recording stays stuck on “Uploading”
Section titled “When a recording stays stuck on “Uploading””When you stop a screen or audio recording, “Saving…” appears at the bottom right of the screen on your computer until sending finishes. If you close or reload the page in the meantime, sending stops, and the recording may stay on “Uploading” in the recording list and in Audio recordings. A recording whose sending has stopped stays saved in the browser you recorded it in until it has been fully sent.
In these cases, the recording can’t be resent.
- More than 7 days have passed since you recorded it
- You recorded it before October 22, 2026
- You recorded in a private window (incognito window) and closed that window
- You cleared the browser’s browsing data (site data)
- The recording couldn’t be saved in the browser, for example because the device didn’t have enough free space
If none of these apply, you can resend it with the following steps.
- On the same device and the same browser you recorded with, open the same organization you recorded in, and then open the recording list (for an audio recording, Audio recordings) (→ Recording list)
- Press “Re-upload”, which appears above the list
Right after you open the organization, the message “Some recordings could not be uploaded. You can resend them from the recording page.” appears at the top right of the screen for a while. Press “Open” to open the recording list (for an audio recording, Audio recordings). If several recordings couldn’t be sent, they are shown one at a time, newest first.
If you do any of the following before resending, the recordings saved in the browser are deleted and can no longer be resent.
- Pressing “Record again” above the list
- Starting a new recording and pressing “Discard and start” in the confirmation
- Pressing “OK” in the browser confirmation that appears when you log out or switch organizations
Recordings stuck on “Uploading” that can’t be resent can be deleted with ”…” → “Delete” on their row in the list (→ Deleting a recording).
If none of these apply but “Re-upload” doesn’t appear, contact us from “Questions about Addness” on the help home page, and include the date and time of the recording and the device and browser you used.
Tying it to a goal
Section titled “Tying it to a goal”From “Linked goal” → “Link to a goal” on the detail page, you can link the recording to a goal (“Change goal” and “Unlink” are in the same place).
Members who can see the tied goal can watch this recording even without a share link. You can hand it over as “for the explanation of this goal, watch this recording.”
Visibility and share links
Section titled “Visibility and share links”Recordings are private at first. Only you and members who can see the tied goal can view them. Widen it with the two toggles on the detail page.
| Toggle | When turned on |
|---|---|
| Share with organization | Shares the recording’s Drive folder with the whole organization so all members can watch. Opening the link requires signing in to Addness |
| Share publicly | Anyone who knows the link can watch (no sign-in needed). Used for sharing outside the company |
“Share with organization” and “Share publicly” can each be turned on and off on their own. “Share with organization” works like Drive sharing and changes the sharing of the recording’s Drive folder (including the transcript). Get the link with “Copy link.” The page opened from the share link shows the person who recorded it and the transcript along with the video.
“Share with organization” can be changed by the owner of the recording’s Drive folder. “Share publicly” can be changed by the person who recorded it and by members with sharing permission. Organization admins can turn off “Share publicly” to stop sharing even on other members’ recordings (they can’t share it again). In that case, the detail page shows “This recording belongs to another member. As an organization admin you can stop sharing it, but you cannot share it again.”
Transcript
Section titled “Transcript”When you record with transcription, the transcript appears on the right of the detail page. While generating, “Generating the transcript” is shown, and it displays automatically once done. Transcription is skipped for recordings with no audio or with the mic off. Transcription uses AI tokens, so if the tokens have run out, that recording isn’t transcribed.
MCP-connected AI can also read the transcript (for recordings you can see, such as your own recordings and recordings tied to goals you can see. → MCP integration guide).
Recording audio only
Section titled “Recording audio only”You can record audio only, without capturing the screen.
- Press the nine-dot icon “Recording, audio, meetings & notes” at the top right of the screen (header) → “Audio,” and recording starts right away with the last microphone you used (there’s no countdown)
- To change the microphone or transcription, open “Audio recording settings” in the corner of “Audio” and choose “Microphone” and “Transcribe”
- To stop, press “Audio” again or “Stop audio recording” at the bottom right of the screen. It’s saved automatically when you stop
Audio recordings are listed in Audio recordings (“More” → “Other features” → “Audio recordings” under “Store your data”). The tabs are “All” and “My audio recordings.” Viewing the detail page, linking to a goal, visibility, and deleting work the same as for screen recordings.
On paid plans (Pro, Focus, Unlimited), one audio recording can be up to 2 hours. Audio recordings are counted together with screen recordings. Transcription is available on the same plans as for screen recordings. Some browsers can’t record audio (“Audio recording isn’t supported in this browser” appears).
Recording list
Section titled “Recording list”The recording list (from “More” → “Other features” → “Recordings” under “Store your data”, or from “Record a new video” on a recording’s detail page) lists the recordings you can see, grouped by today / yesterday / this week / earlier. There are two tabs: “All” and “My recordings.” Each row shows a visibility badge (“Organization” or “Public”; “Public” is the same as “Share publicly” on the detail page) and states such as uploading and processing. Load more with “Show more.”
- Search: You can narrow the list with the search box (“Search by title, goal, or creator”). It searches only what has already loaded, so load older recordings with “Show more” before you search for them
- View: You can switch between “Cards” and “List.”
- Watched: Recordings you’ve finished show “Watched,” and recordings you’ve watched part of show “Partly watched (◯%)”
Audio recordings are listed in the same layout in Audio recordings.
Deleting a recording
Section titled “Deleting a recording”Delete a recording with “Delete” on its detail page, or with ”…” → “Delete” on its row in the recording list. You can delete your own recordings, and organization admins can also delete other members’ recordings.
Press “Delete” on the confirmation screen “Delete this recording?” and the video is permanently deleted too. This can’t be undone.
- On plans that count recordings as “Recordings this month (screen and audio),” deleting doesn’t give back any of this month’s screen and audio recording allowance
- On plans that count recordings as “Saved recordings (screen and audio),” deleting frees up one slot, so you can record again
Differences by plan
Section titled “Differences by plan”The number and length of screen and audio recordings, and transcription, are set by your plan (→ Plans and billing).
- Starter: No screen or audio recording
- Pro: Screen and audio recording 3/mo
- Focus: Screen and audio recording 300/mo with transcription (about 39 hours/month per seat)
- Unlimited: Unlimited number of screen and audio recordings, with transcription (about 69 hours/month per seat)
Transcription uses the AI balance. The estimate is the time available if the balance is used only for transcription (→ Features that use the AI allowance, and estimates per seat).
On paid plans (Pro, Focus, Unlimited), one screen recording can be up to 15 minutes, and one audio recording up to 2 hours.
This article is based on the screens as of October 15, 2026. Addness is updated daily, so the screens and steps may differ slightly from what you see now.
