Open Addness

Install an AI app and connect it to Addness

Install Claude Code or Codex, then start with Addness it on the setup screen that opens after you sign up.

Last updated: 2026-11-03

You use Addness together with your AI (Claude Code, Codex, ChatGPT and others). When you finish signing up, the setup screen opens. In 5 steps, you connect your AI to Addness, the AI builds your goal tree and ToDos, and you hand your first piece of work to the AI.

This article is for people who haven’t installed an AI app yet. It walks you through installing Claude Code or Codex and going through the setup screen to the end. You don’t need any technical knowledge, and you don’t need to type any commands.

People who joined an organization by invitation go through the same setup screen. The first screen says “Join ◯◯‘s goal with your own responsibility”.

  • A computer (Mac, or Windows 10 or 11. See “Computer requirements” below). We recommend doing the setup on a computer. If you signed up on your phone, sign in to the same account in a browser on your computer and you can pick up where you left off
  • An Addness account. If you’ve finished signing up, you already have one
  • One AI account. Get one of the following, depending on the AI you use
AI you useAccount you need
Claude CodeA Claude account (paid plan: Pro or higher)
CodexA ChatGPT account (paid plan: Plus or higher)

Either AI takes you to the same point.

These are the computer requirements for the AI apps (from each company’s official guidance, as of October 2026).

AI you useMacWindows
Claude Code (Claude app)macOS 13 or later (Intel and Apple silicon)Windows 10 (version 1809 or later) / 11 (64-bit)
Codex (ChatGPT app)macOS 14 or laterWindows 10 / 11 (64-bit)
  • Memory: Claude Code’s official minimum is 4 GB. But you’ll also have the browser and other apps open while you ask the AI to do work, so 8 GB tends to be slow. We recommend 16 GB or more
  • Older computers: If a computer can’t be updated to the OS versions above, you can’t install the AI apps on it. Check your OS version before the day of setup (Mac: Apple menu at the top left of the screen → “About This Mac”; Windows: “Settings” → “System” → “About”)
  • One computer shared by several people: Set up a separate Mac or Windows user for each person. That keeps each person’s sign-ins to the AI app and Addness separate, and stops the AI from working under someone else’s account
  • If you’re not comfortable with computers: You ask the AI to do work from your computer, but you can also send requests to the AI on your computer from the Addness mobile app. Install the Addness desktop app on your computer and keep it open (→ “Send requests from your phone to the AI on your computer” in Web app and desktop app)

Claude Code is the “Code” tab in the Claude app. Install the Claude app and sign in with your Claude account.

  1. Open Claude’s download page and download the Mac version (it works on both Intel and Apple silicon Macs)
  2. Open the downloaded file and drag the Claude icon to the “Applications” folder
  3. Launch Claude from “Applications” and sign in with your Claude account
  1. Open Claude’s download page and download the Windows version
  2. Run the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions
  3. Launch Claude and sign in with your Claude account

Once you’re signed in to the Claude app and can see the “Code” tab at the top of the screen, you’re ready. Keep the Claude app open and go on to Go through the setup screen.

Codex is OpenAI’s AI app. Install the Codex app and sign in with your ChatGPT account.

  1. Download the Codex app for Mac (this is OpenAI’s official download file. It runs on Macs with Apple silicon)
  2. Open the downloaded file and drag the Codex icon to the “Applications” folder
  3. Launch Codex from “Applications” and sign in with your ChatGPT account
  1. Open the Codex page on the Microsoft Store and press “Get” to install it (this is OpenAI’s official page. The app name is shown as “Codex” or “ChatGPT”)
  2. Launch the installed app and sign in with your ChatGPT account

Once the Codex app opens and you’re signed in with your ChatGPT account, you’re ready. Keep the Codex app open and go on to Go through the setup screen.

The top of the screen shows “Step ◯ / 5” and the next step.

The “Connect your AI to Addness” screen lists the AI cards: ChatGPT, Claude Code, Codex and Claude on a computer, and ChatGPT and Claude on a phone.

  1. Press Addness the connection for the AI you installed. The AI app opens with the instruction for connecting to Addness already filled in
  2. In the AI app, press Enter to send the instruction. The AI connects Addness by itself
  3. When the “Connect to Addness MCP” screen opens in the browser, sign in with your Addness account and press “Allow”. You don’t need to tell the AI your ID or password
  4. When the connection is made, a ✓ appears on that AI. Once you’ve connected at least one, you can move on to the next step

If the AI app doesn’t open, press “Connect manually”, paste the instruction that appears into the AI app and send it. With ChatGPT, allow the connection to Addness the first time only, and then send the instruction.

The Claude card has no Addness the connection button. You connect Claude yourself by adding the Addness URL in Claude’s connector settings. Press “Connect manually” and the Addness URL (you can copy it with “Copy URL”), the instruction, and the “Open Claude connector settings” link appear. Follow the guidance on the screen, and when the connection screen opens, sign in to Addness and press “Allow”. When the connection is made, a ✓ appears.

After connecting, the AI may tell you “Please quit this app and open it again.” Quit the AI app, open it again, pick the same conversation and send “continue”. Closing the window doesn’t quit the app, so quit it the way the AI explains.

On the “Let your AI learn about you and Addness” screen, press Addness this step to choose the AI, then press Enter in the AI app. The AI learns how to use Addness in a way that fits you.

On the “Where is your work information?” screen, choose where the AI should read your information from.

  • Google Calendar and meeting notes are your schedule and the notes from your meetings
  • LINE and Messenger are your personal LINE and Messenger. They appear only when you open Addness in the desktop app (not in the web app)

If you don’t want to connect anything now, press “Skip unconnected sources for now”. You can connect them later from “Complete setup” (→ After the setup).

When you press Addness this step on the “Review your information and set up your environment” screen, the AI reads your goals and the work information you connected, then creates a goal tree and ToDos within your area of responsibility. It only reads all of this. It doesn’t send or change anything. If there’s information you don’t want it to read, tell the AI before it starts.

Progress is shown as “Step ◯ / 7” and usually takes 10 to 20 minutes. If the AI asks for confirmation, open the AI app and answer. When it finishes, “Your plan to reach your goal is ready!” appears and the goal tree shows up.

  1. Press “View work to delegate to AI” and choose up to 3 pieces of work from the goal tree that you want to hand over right now
  2. Press “Continue with selected work”
  3. Press ▶ or Addness this goal on a row to open the menu, then choose “Work on it” or “Brainstorm”, and that work is handed to the AI. Hand over one at a time
  4. A handed-over row shows “Handed off with “Work on it”” or “Handed off with “Brainstorm””. If you’ve closed the AI app, press “Reopen the AI app” to open it again

You don’t need to wait for the AI to finish the work. When you hand over a piece of work, “You completed “Get ready to start with AI”” appears and you get 100 points. When you’ve handed over all the work you chose, ”◯ tasks handed off to AI. Congratulations!” appears. Press “Start using Addness” at the end to go to Home. Even if you close the setup screen, the AI keeps working in the AI app.

Settings you haven’t finished yet are listed under “Complete setup”, at the top of the menu of your own icon and of My Settings (the number remaining is also shown on the icon).

  • Connect your AI and have it learn about Addness
  • Connect Google Calendar and meeting notes
  • Challenges (such as voice input and chat in the desktop app)
  • Talk to Addness AI on LINE (official account)
  • Connect Slack (shown only to organization admins)

Press “Start” to begin a setting, and “Dismiss” to remove it from the list (“Undo” brings it back). Settings you put off during setup are gathered under “Deferred items”, and finished ones under “Completed items”.

These are the features you’ll use often after setup, and how to open them. “More” in the table is in the left sidebar on a computer, and in the bar at the bottom of the screen on a phone. Press it to open the “Other features” page.

In a newly created organization, features that aren’t open yet carry a lock. Press a feature with a lock and the lock dialog opens. Finish the challenge from “Start now”, or press “Skip and use it (no points)”, and the feature becomes available (→ Challenges and feature locks).

Where everything is on the screen is covered in Understanding the Sidebar & Screens, and the list of features with locks and the challenges that open them is in Challenges and feature locks.

The Home screen of someone who registered with an earlier screen may have a “Get started with Addness” (previously “Set up Addness”) goal with the setup-step goals under it.

  1. Open Addness in a browser on your computer, and open “Home” in the sidebar
  2. Find the first row under “Get started with Addness”. If you removed it from ToDos, you can find it in the dialog opened with “See all ToDos”
  3. Press Addness it on the right of the row → “Work on it”, then press “Open in Claude” or “Open in Codex”, depending on the AI app you installed
  4. The AI app opens with the instruction already filled in. Send the instruction without changing it

The AI takes it from there, working through the rows in order and marking finished rows as complete. If you close the AI app partway through, press the AI mark to the left of Addness it on the row to go back to the same conversation (→ Home “How to read a row”).

  • The AI app doesn’t open when you press Addness it: Check that the AI app is installed and that you’re signed in. If it’s installed but still doesn’t open, press “Connect manually” on the setup screen, or “Copy instruction” on a goal row, paste the instruction into the AI app’s input box and send it
  • The “Allow” screen doesn’t appear, or a different browser opened: Sign in to Addness in the browser that opened, then press “Allow” again. If it stops in Safari, make Chrome your default browser and open it again
  • Connecting to Addness stopped partway: “If it stops partway” in MCP Integration has steps for Claude Code and Codex. Show the steps to the AI, or continue on your own
  • You connected it but the AI can’t use Addness, or it stopped after working before: “If it doesn’t connect” in MCP Integration lists common problems and how to fix them
  • The steps don’t get you any further: Contact us from “Help with Addness (support form)” on the help home page. Copy any error message exactly as it appears, and if you have a screenshot of the screen where it stopped, paste a share link to it in the form

To connect an AI other than Claude Code or Codex (such as ChatGPT, Cursor or Claude Desktop) to Addness, see MCP Integration.

You don’t need the Addness desktop app for setup. The desktop app is for personal LINE, Messenger, and WhatsApp integration, voice input, and requests from your phone to the AI on your computer (→ Web app and desktop app).

This article is based on the screens as of October 21, 2026, and on each company’s official guidance.
